Lessons from my department offsite in Helsinki

I spent Tuesday and Wednesday this week with my [Hugh], [Tibs] and the rest of the devrel, PMM, and marketing org.

Without spilling all the awesome things that we're working,I wanted to talk about some of the things that I learned.

No one knows what you do and what's important to you and your team

People don't know what we do in DevRel. We knew that. I think what the rest of the team didn't know was that we didn't know what they do either.

Our marketing team has data analysts, event specialists, community folks, OEM marketing, and growth teams, to name a few of the roles. There is a lot of competing for attention, budget, and influence. Some of the failures that we identified, are because people are working on similar projects and competing against each other instead of working together.

Some Other Quick Thoughts

  • AI is changing faster than teams can develop workflows
  • It's important for folks to see things from time-to-time

just a fun photo of this cool statue I walked by
